My Students

Constant bombardment with video games and simulated online environments seems to be all that students are exposed to nowadays. With hands-on dissections they become actively engaged in science from the natural world around them.

My students are a heterogeneous mixture of all races and religions.

I teach mostly middle and high school students. Although many urban minority students enter this level of schooling with a desire to attend a 4-year college or university, by the time they graduate, many have become sidetracked or settle for alternate choices. I find that providing my students with direct dissection-based labs inspires them to stay focused and motivated to want to continue to pursue their science education beyond graduation.

My Project

One of the most exciting labs for students is dissecting. Not only do they get to build their skills working with scientific tools, they improve their self-confidence. My students need 170 plus frogs to dissect!! By spending time in the science lab dissecting, my students will not only come to understand the anatomy and physiology of amphibians, but also build confidence in their own ability as to work in the lab setting independently as young scientists. By pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones, many students will grow in self confidence as they experience perhaps their only educational opportunity to dissect frogs or any other preserved organism.

So many of my students have never even had the opportunity to WITNESS A TEACHER dissect.

This donation will provide them not only with a chance to see the teacher do it, but also to DO the dissection THEMSELVES! I cannot overestimate the impact this will have on their motivation for science and health. It will provide the students the chance to view the internal world of amphibians.
