My Students

My students are just like students all over the country, technology driven. They LOVE video games. During literacy stations I am able to meet with small groups and focus on what they need, but only if the others are occupied. I don't want them doing just anything. I want it to be fun and educational.

I have 17 kindergarteners ages 5 to 6 from varying backgrounds.

They are such a great group of kids ready to learn! Our school is a family, every teacher and parent is here to help students succeed in what ever way they can. My students enjoy station time where they get to try a variety of learning methods, such as walking around the room writing words, playing on computers, listening to books on CD, and playing pocket chart games!

My Project

During literacy stations my students partner up and do various activities in the classroom, such as computer, reading, listening, and word work. One of their favorite stations is the Leap Frog station which has Leapsters, Leap Pads, and other Leap Frog products. We also have a very old Leap Frog TV system that I found at a garage sale. The controller doesn't always work and many of the games have stopped working. The children love playing on this system and the games are very educational. It is important to me that literacy stations be fun and engaging because during this time I am working with small groups of students on focused skills. However, I don't want the other students just playing I want them learning and Leap Frog lets them do both!

All of my students are aware of video games and how fun they are, but they don't realize how educational they can be!

This game system will help motivate and educate my students in reading and math!
