Help Ms. Boyce

I teach children in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade that have severe behavior and emotional disabilities. Most of the children in my class, at this time, are third graders who are reading at a first grade level. These children have not been read to at home and they struggle with the written word. They are starting to become aware of the fact that they are so far below their peers academically. I believe that technology today can be a wonderful tool to help aid my children in their struggle to learn to read. Leap Pads have been used successfully in the younger grades at my school. They have helped children improve their reading skills as well as language arts and math skills. I would like to purchase two Leap Pads for my classroom as well as some Leap Pad programs to use with them. I have a young group of children and they really enjoy working with the one Leap Pad that we have in our classroom. This was one that I donated from my own home and I have only two programs the children can use on it. If I had more Leap Pads and programs, the children would be able to independently review reading, math or language skills. This is important in my classroom because most of my teaching is done in small groups to accommodate each child's individual needs. This Leap Pad activity would be an independent activity that they would be excited to complete.
