My students need new LeapPads and games to replace the ones they currently have in the classroom. The current LeapPads have lasted five years and are starting to breakdown.
My sixteen first grade students live in a rural community in South Carolina. Our Title I school has 528 students, with 54% of the children qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Eight boys and eight girls help to create an active and fun learning environment in our classroom.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Having the set of LeapPads will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. Students use LeapPads during our literacy centers to review concepts we have already learned and build on their vocabulary. These educational games provide opportunities for the students to be engaged and excited about classwork.
My students need games and activities that focus on letter recognition, writing, and math to explore with during Literacy Center time.
The students will use these materials to explore their ability through building, drawing, counting, making letters and sounds, and then words! Your generous donation to our project will improve our first grade classroom by building stronger readers and writers. This will change the students' lives for the better. They will love school and feel success at an early age --- having fun while learning!
