Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a Psychiatric Social Worker in a school setting, my goal is to help remove social emotional barriers to learning in order to improve the academic success of students. I provide the following support to students and families: individual and group counseling, parent educational workshops, classroom presentations, school-wide campaigns, staff consultations, crisis interventions, etc.

It is essential to have a safe and inviting space to achieve my goal in supporting students, families, and the school community.

Providing support to elementary students also requires a therapeutic approach which includes play and art. In particular, this age group (Kinder-5th grade) enjoy reading material on social emotional learning, and interactive activities that make mental health topics easier to understand and digest.

With your support, I hope to create a safe and warm environment which will encourage my students to open up about their stressors and learn essential coping skills that will propel them to have not only academic success but also emotional well-being. Thank you!
