This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Special Education teacher in a New York public high school teaching 10th, 11th, and 12th, grade self-contained English. All of my students are bright, motivated people who need that extra push to succeed. I am touched and inspired by their ability to face these tremendous obstacles.

My greatest challenge as a special educator is meeting the needs of all my students.

They have a wide range of learning styles that simply cannot be met without technological resources. Many of my students respond well to visual stimuli such as video clips and graphics. They also respond well to music and audio books.

My Project

It is very difficult for anyone to understand a topic without activating mental schema. The DLP projector would help establish a context for the books we read in English class. For example, my students will be able to comprehend what Salem, Massachusetts looked like in 1692 and thus have a frame of reference when reading The Crucible.

With a DLP projector, I would incorporate this level of technology into my classroom on a regular basis.

My students can better visualize the setting of a novel by looking at photographs and improve their reading fluency by listening to professional actors read plays aloud. Your donation would help my students reach a higher level of understanding.
