Help Ms. Ofstie

I teach 9th-12th grade English Language Development. My students are English language learners from all different parts of the world, including China, Vietnam, Mexico, El Salvador, Burma, Cambodia, and Honduras. My high school is in a high-need area with many students receiving free and reduced lunch.

I have a laptop which I bring with me to school every day, but I have no way of bringing electronic content into my classroom. The laptop is too small for 25 students to crowd around, so showing something online or teaching with the Internet is virtually impossible.

I would love to have an LCD projector for my classes. It could easily hook up to my laptop via a USB cable, and I could project anything from streaming media to websites to historical documents on our screen. My students are very dependent upon audio and visual materials in order to understand literature, and this would be a wonderful way to present them. I will be able to help my students prepare for college by modeling effective writing, online research skills, showing streaming videos, pictures, graphs, and the list goes on and on.

You will make it possible for my students to understand literature on a much deeper level, as well as become better writers. It will make things possible in my classroom that were never possible before. It will not only benefit this year's students, but it will also benefit many years of students to come.
