Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a Psychiatric Social, I work with a multitude of Middle and High School students. Many of the students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and about ⅓ of the students population are newcomers to the country.

During my time here, I have noticed that the students do not have a relaxing space to decrease negative feelings and thoughts - to feel safe.

Many are still struggling with the impacts of COVID-19 or other life stressors such as, grief, community violence, migration or other traumas. It is even more challenging when there is no calming space for them to decrease those stressors.

However, with furniture and new items, a calming corner this can be possible!
