Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In this project, students will explore the fascinating principles of aerodynamics through hands-on experimentation with paper airplanes and launchers that mimic the catapult-assisted takeoff used by naval fighter pilots on aircraft carriers. The project will engage students in understanding how physics and engineering principles are applied in real-world scenarios, providing a dynamic learning experience that connects classroom concepts with practical applications. By constructing and launching paper airplanes, students will investigate how thrust, lift, and trajectory affect flight, gaining a deeper appreciation for the challenges and innovations in aviation technology.

This project aims to deepen students' understanding of aerodynamics, engineering, and aviation by allowing them to simulate the catapult-assisted takeoff used on aircraft carriers.

The use of paper airplane launchers will help students visualize and experiment with the forces at play, offering an interactive way to learn about physics concepts such as force, motion, and energy. Through iterative design and testing, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, as they work to optimize their paper airplanes for flight. Furthermore, by exploring aviation through this project, students will be encouraged to consider future careers in this exciting and innovative field, sparking their interest in both the science and technology that make flight possible.

We are seeking to purchase paper airplane launchers, a variety of printing paper for airplane construction, and storage bins to organize the materials for different class periods. This funding will enable us to provide each student with the resources needed to fully participate in the project, ensuring that the materials are well-maintained and accessible throughout the study. With your support, we can offer a stimulating and educational experience that encourages students to explore the exciting world of aerodynamics, engineering, and aviation through creative experimentation.
