Our Title I elementary school is comprised of around 800 students including grades K-5. Of our student population, over 70 percent receive reduced and free lunches. Our students, though part of a small, rural community, have a huge interest in science and mathematics.
They love to learn how the world around them works and enjoy participating in hands on projects in which they can bring their ideas to life through makerspaces, research projects, and virtual experiences.
By channeling this curiosity and passion for learning, it is our school's mission to provide meaningful learning experiences to be better prepared for a technology driven future.
My Project
Ben Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." As a library media specialist for grades K-5, my goal is to provide the latest, research based tools and technologies to provide limitless opportunities to explore students' curiosities and provide meaningful experiences.
The Oculus VR headset will give my students virtual learning experiences that will break the limitations of the traditional classroom instruction model.
Most of these students come from backgrounds and situations that prevent them from experiencing the world beyond the confines of our state; even our county. If I am not able to take my students to explore the world, the next best thing is to bring the world to them; through providing the tools and knowledge using the metaverse as their launchpad.
