This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I don’t yet know my students for this school year, but every year is a new adventure with children who become “my kids” within the first month. As of mid-August, the class roster is 32 students. While that number may change, the expectation is that the first grade classes will all be full.

With maximimum class enrollment this school year, I’d like to provide the opportunity for these 5-6 year olds, who are likely a mix of abilities and languages, the opportunity to learn in a print-rich classroom.

My Project

We need Post-it easel paper to enhance learning by having visual cues and reminders readily available around the room. Having self-stick charts makes it easier to display instructions or lessons that the students can use to reinforce the material taught and practiced. In a classroom where bulletin board space is at a premium, and the ceilings are too high to display from, being able to set these reminders anywhere there is wall space that the children can view would be a huge help.

The charts will provide a visual reminder of step by step processes for reading and writing that build upon each other during the year.

The charts can also be used to demonstrate math facts and rules, and would be available to the students at all times, as the self-stick nature of the post-it’s make it ideal for setting them up where needed.
