This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting donations for a new large classroom rug with designated sit spots. This past year we were given new rugs for our classroom but unfortunately they aren't as large as our previous ones. The new ones are also a map of the United States and therefore don't have any sort of designated spots for the students to sit. The map rug I will be able to use in my classroom library, but will then need a new main rug for instruction.

In teaching second grade the students still need some type of boundary area when sitting on a carpet or else they will easily get into each others spaces, which usually ends up causing some type of problem.

I have built into my beginning of the year routines how to transition to and from the carpet (which includes being able to call students by color or row to leave the carpet) and how to sit correctly on the carpet (which includes telling them some sort of boundary not to cross). This rug I'm asking for will be a perfect addition to my classroom because not only does it provide specific places for the students to sit, its much larger than the one I have now, and it also matches my classroom color theme!
