Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is made up of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. I teach all subjects to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. My class ranges in age from 7 to 13. Many of my students have limited cognitive abilities, mental disabilities, and attention spans. However, when they come into contact with computers they are able to tap into a greater part of themselves.

The students at my school come from the inner city.

The school has 95% of the students on free or reduced lunch. The school is predominately Hispanic and African American. Most of the students are below the poverty line and have no access to computers or the Internet at home.

My Project

If we had a laptop for learning in my classroom, more students would be able to use the computer to aid them in reading and mathematics. Our school district has programs online that help students better learn to read and practice solving mathematical problems. My class is made up of students who have been retained and well as are already a special classroom for students with disabilities.

Students have to take their state assessments online and my classroom does not have the computers needed for them to be successful.

These laptops will help the students reach a level that they may not have otherwise. Having a personal school computer will help better access their education.
