This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 5th grade in an impoverished neighborhood in the Bronx, NY. My school provides free breakfast and free lunch to our students as the majority of them can not afford to pay for their own meals. I currently have 28 students in my classroom who have the desire to be engaged learners. I try to make the 6 hours a day they spend with me, as meaningful and productive as possible.

I consistently have conversations with my students about the importance of not only education, but also of serving their community and engaging in meaningful relationships with their peers.

My experience has shown that providing them with a structured, positive and loving environment, increases their test scores and their desire to learn.

My Project

This laptop donation will improve the quality of teaching in my classroom for many reasons. It will allow my students the opportunity to complete online research on given curriculum topics. The laptops will provide more students with the ability to work on math fluency skills, reading comprehension skills, and to participate in educational online games. I am eager for them to learn basic keyboarding skills as well. Students would love the chance to publish their end of the unit writing pieces as well!

I teach in a school with limited resources, so having laptops stationed in my classroom would be very beneficial to my students.

I would love to provide them with as many opportunities as possible this year as I am preparing them for middle school and the world beyond.
