My Students

Financial concepts are familiar to adults but abstract to children. This project aims to use technology and bring financial literacy alive with interactive, internet-based lessons that students can understand and apply to their everyday life.

My students, like kids all over the world, are in love with technology!

They are energetic and enthusiastic learners when given the right learning tools to maintain their motivation. They possess a wide range of reading abilities and need to go beyond work that is "easy" and move towards that which challenges their intellect. My school is a Title 1 campus with high poverty and limited access to new technology like student laptops. I can already see the excitement in their eyes as I introduce them to a new way of learning.

My Project

The financial decisions that are made early in life impact every aspect of a person's future. I am requesting two student laptop computers to help my students become financially literate and run kid friendly software scenarios that make them better able to research and understand the concepts of savings, investments, and economic growth. The laptops would enable my students to access sites where they would be in charge of counting money, setting personal finance goals, tracking allowances, and playing the role of banker to see how their money can grow in the future. Understanding these concepts is the essence of financial literacy and will enable my students to build a financial background to move beyond being mere high-debt consumers in our economy.

This project brings to light the consequences of poor financial management and highlights the importance of financial literacy as a survival skill in our society.

Hopefully, this project will set my students on the right financial track. Thank you, in advance, to all who channel their inner economist and fund this project.
