My Students

My fifth-grade students are part of the Horizon ASD Program in New York City. It is the first incoming class of its kind in our school. They will be the first group of fifth grade graduating the program this year. They are paving the way for the Horizon program in our school. My students have various learning styles and needs. They are polite, happy, and eager to learn. Our location allows us to be close to the richly diverse culture of the New York City while enjoying peaceful views of frolicking deer behind the school yard.

The children especially love learning with the use of technology and being able to use various forms of sensory activities.

It is our goal to keep them excited, engaged, and learning. Along with building their reading and writing skills, learning multiplication with 2 and 3-digit numbers, measuring, and many other exciting things, they will be learning to self-assess and reflect on their own work in order to understand their learning goals, progress, and how they can achieve their goals. We are building independent learners.

My Project

We are getting a new student. Each student currently has their own laptop to use. This laptop will continue to allow us to have one to one devices.

We use technology throughout the day.

Students use Google Classroom. They type their writing pieces. They do independent research. We create shared documents that can be added to by each student at any time. They also have access to several online programs issues through our school.

This really breaks down barriers for students who are apprehensive to physically writing or struggle because of a disability. It is also engaging and allows for differentiation.
