Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a 7th/8th bridge, bilingual, special education class. My students' needs include speech and language impairment, attention deficit, hyperactivity and mild emotional disturbance. Some of the students in this class have recently come from Spanish speaking countries, others are students with interrupted formal education.

The previous pandemic situation increased the number of challenges my students face daily.

Academic and developmental needs, access to technology and the need to master the use of the technology are the challenges they are facing in terms of their education.

Currently my students are learning Computer Science. They have Chromebooks with internet connection provided by the school. They use them to participate in daily projects and assignments with me. They also have access to the materials I provide using different educational online platforms.

Currently I work with a laptop from 2015. Since it is so old, it makes certain tasks difficult. For instance, when you try to explain problems using digital whiteboards, it is very difficult to draw with a mouse. A tablet is not good enough because It would affect writing lesson plans and documents.

My Project

This MacBook Air laptop is strikingly thin and brings exceptional speed and power efficiency. It’s the ultrafast, ultra-capable laptop that lets you work, play, and create just about anything which is the main purpose of computer science, create animated shapes and more. This device is ideal for teaching computer science because it would allow me to do all the planning requirements to teach my students. For example, I could easily create animates shapes for computer science using specific programs, write lesson plans, design worksheets, prepare presentations, assessments and any other document I would need to teach.
