My Students

My students at Boushall Middle School come from some of the worst housing projects in Richmond, VA. Our school provides breakfast and lunch at no cost for every student. We also have programs to include dinner, for some of our students that will be the only food they eat all day.

If I get the computers I will rotate my students through a computer station so that they can get practice using the computers at least every other day.

Currently we share 1 lap top cart with our entire grade level so we might get to use computers twice a month.

Their SOL test they are required to take at the end of the year is taken on a computer. We do not have a class set of computers and my students do not have computers at home so there are not a lot of opportunities for them to practice taking tests and quizzes on a computer. Being able to keep a few computers in our classroom and create a computer station for our students to practice SOL questions would be invaluable to them.

My Project

These lap tops will put technology in my students hands DAILY. Technology that they can rarely use, but are required to use when they take their SOL test at the end of the year. I will create a test practice station in my class with the computers where my students will be able to use the computers at least every other day to practice. Being able to see and practice they types of questions they will see in order to move on to the next grade will certainly improve their chances of showing improvement on these tests. In addition the computers will be used after school to help with math remediation for our lower students.
