My Project

My name is Ms.Mazumdar and I’m a Speech Language Pathologist at a school in the Bronx. I have been working in this community for 14 years. I am often asked why I commute so far from home to work to go all the way to the Bronx. The answer is simple. These kids, in this community really need help! They walk through crime ridden streets to school and come from struggling households. Some even come from shelters far away. School for them is a place where they have no worries, and they experience “normalcy” and are exposed to a world outside of their bubble. Providing speech and language services to my students is a privilege to me.

I have primarily worked with 2nd through 5th grade students.

This coming year I will be starting with Pre-K, K and 1st graders

Over the past two years, our student population has changed to include more severely speech and language impaired students. These students are often non verbal and have limited language skills.

The material that I have bought over the past 14 years will not be apt for the group I will be working with in the next few years. We are responsible for buying all our own material for our therapy sessions.

The materials I have listed such as Language Learners building kits here are resources that will allow me to target vocabulary acquisition, sentence formulation, effective use of language to communicate needs/feelings/thoughts.
