This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are English Language Learners (ELL's) recently emigrated from a variety different countries, including Yemen, Italy, Dominican Republic, and Albania. Many of these students arrive with little to no English language proficiency. Yet, they are expected to perform at the same level as their peers who are native English speakers. The stress of being a teenager in a new place, performing well in school--all while learning a new language--can be daunting . Technology is the key to their success.

My Project

Many English Language Learners arrive in the United States with little to no English proficiency. The New York City Department of Education supports them in a variety of ways; however, it is impossible to provide each student with language support in every class they take. This leaves many ELL students to rely on classmates and their busy teachers to provide translation and support.

Technology goes a long way toward bringing those two worlds together.

Regular use of a computer helps them to succeed on their own. It empowers them to control their own learning. This independence to learn and thrive on their own is the best give we can give them.
