Language and Literature for My Young Learners with Autism

My Students

The kindergarten students in my class are all diagnosed with Autism. Although some of my students communicate verbally, others use sign language, picture supports, or communication devices. All of my students have learning challenges and difficulty communicating and using spontaneous social language. My enthusiastic young learners are all highly motivated during activities involving literature. My students need immersive multi-sensory experiences to facilitate their language and literacy skills. They need frequent opportunities to listen to the stories, practice the words, and touch and hold the props and manipulatives in order to develop their language and vocabulary. Please help me continue to support their language and literacy skills.

My Project

My young learners with autism need hands-on materials that can help make literature come to life. My students often need adapted materials, so having access to big books will be helpful for those who need larger images.

Due to their unique learning styles, my students benefit from a multi-sensory experience that includes props and manipulatives that they can hold and touch.

The literature storage system will support social language use. As the students develop increased language, they will be able to independently select the stories they want to read and share.
