This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Math teacher at my school. All my life I have been a musician. I wanted to provide that opportunity to my students so I purchased instruments - Guitars, Drums, and some wind instruments, so that my students would have the opportunity to express themselves via music.

We do not have a music program in our school.

I created a club, The LAHSA Music Factory. Students, teachers, and support staff come to my room during breaks and after school and they learn, practice, o teach music. Once a semester we have a talent show to showcase anyone who is ready and willing to get up in front of a live audience. The speakers I usually use for this event are blown or about to go out of service - permanently. Our talent show is slated for early May. At the moment I cannot afford to purchase new speakers for the school. If we don't have the speakers, the talent show will not happen. Some of my club members are seniors. For them, this MAY be the very last time they perform in front of their peers, families, and supporting community members.

The speakers will be good for this talent show and for many talent shows to come. We have a students body of about 400 students. In all there are about 460 people at the school. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in the talent show. Hence, EVERYONE at the school will benefit from having these speakers.
