My Students

I am a lower grade science teacher. I will be teacher pre-K- 2nd grade. They get so excited every week about coming to science class. My students come from many different backgrounds. Most families are from low-income households. The school is a Title I school which qualifies all of them for free breakfast and lunch. Most of them are recent immigrants and are English language learners. I try to give them many hands-on, real-life experiences during science class.

In my classroom, my scientists work together in groups, learn to solve real world problems, and are curious about the world around them.

My Project

Lower grade elementary science always focuses on living and non-living things. They learn how to tell the difference between what is living verse not living. In this study, there is also a focus on life cycles of animals and plants. Students love learning about life cycles. I would like to provide larvae from butterflies, ladybugs, and praying mantis so students can have a live experience in studying the metamorphosis of these species and compare how they are similar and different from each other. Having more than one species will help deepen their understanding. It will also make their learning fun and engaging.
