This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As the first teacher dedicated to teaching only Science here at PS 48, I am building the science program from the ground up and am in need of some basic science lab equipment. I am excited to be building a program that sparks curiosity, fosters exploration, and encourages creativity in our students. My goal is to provide students from kindergarten to 5th grade with hands-on experiences that make science come alive. To do so, I am seeking support to purchase materials that will allow my students to engage with science in a meaningful and interactive way.

With your help, I would like to provide materials for our science classroom.

• Tuning Forks & Optical Lenses: These tools will allow students to explore sound waves, vibrations, and light refraction, deepening their understanding of physics through sensory experiments.

• Sensory Floor Tiles: These will provide a tactile and engaging way for younger students to explore sensory concepts, helping them understand concepts like pattern recognition and balance.

• Printer: A classroom printer will allow me to print worksheets, science journals, and educational materials for students to track their experiments and learning progress, along with allowing me to create differentiated graphic organizers.

• Keva Planks & PlusPlus: These versatile building materials will be used in STEM challenges, encouraging students to design, build, and problem-solve in creative ways.

These materials will support demonstrations and activities that allow students to investigate the world around them. Together, we can inspire a lifelong love of learning and discovery in the students of Washington Heights!
