Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
The Students at DHE easily take on the attributes of the brave woman who is their school's namesake. They are eager to impact the world, and make ferocious desire to learn no secret. We take pride in our students and enable them to seek out opportunities for growth within the San Francisco community. Late last November, some of our students came together to form a bake sale that raised over $700 dollars; that money is now in the process of getting donated to health care services for child pediatrics.
My Project
La Tiendita is in need of a second semester resupply of engaging personalized school materials, as well as STEAM learning activities. We strive to keep La Tiendita an exciting place for students to be able to redeem their "plumas," paper acknowledgment they receive for exhibiting positive behaviors, especially if they go out of their way to model healthy choices where there was no expectation to.
La Tiendita moves away from ordinary school rewards, like candies, or plastic toys, and toward rewards that engage students in a new skill or provide them an entirely novel experience; mixed media paper pads and amazing animals.
Framing rewards away from commodities and towards experiences is our primary goal.
The student's store will help the DH community practice their early financial literacy and build habits like saving and budgeting early in their education. It will also provide an important opportunity to begin unpacking for students how markets essentially function.
