I am a 7th grade special day class teacher that serves a low income neighborhood. Like many teachers I am struggling to try to help my students catch up from the lack of strong education that occurred due the corona virus pandemic and almost 2 years of lock down and virtual learning which left many students especially those who have special needs and are low income and often only have one parent to help with school work very far behind. My biggest goal is help my students who are illiterate. While I have personally purchased items for my classroom having DonorsChoose help me get more phonics activities and Teachers Pay Teachers resources for this goal would be amazing and potentially life changing. Many of the resources I was given are for students who read at a level of 5th grade and above however while my students are in 7th grade, none of them read above a 4th grade level likely due to the pandemic.
