Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When students are doing the right thing, it’s wonderful to catch them in the act. As much as you hear about punishing bad behavior, it’s important to celebrate the good behavior.

At our school, we have a reward system where teachers call students out for exhibiting our core values.

Good kids are rewarded with a “Kudo” coin, and when they save these coins, they can spend them in the Kudos store. In fact, Kudo coins are the only form of payment the store accepts. The students who operate the store are in a leadership class. While running the Kudos Store, they learn communication skills, work ethic, and even some great business and customer service skills.

This is how we teach kids to value good behavior, reward what is right, and work together to foster a positive learning environment.

Kids in the leadership class chose the items in this project based on customer feedback. If funded, they will use these items to stock the shelves and “sell” the items for Kudo coins. Through this initiative, we have seen calmer classrooms, better behavior, and a way to inspire and encourage rather than to correct and punish.
