The DonorsChoose family has generously funded a proposal to have students engaged in knitting and crocheting during the early morning before school begins. Our students often arrive as much as an hour before school begins. They have to sit in the hall and are encouraged to read a book. However, I felt that this time could be well spent in learning a life skill that could possibly help to earn them some money in the future. I began a knitting/crocheting club and invited 4th and 5th grade students to join. The response has been so overwhelming, that I am now completely out of yarn. These students are clamoring for more yarn. Since this is open to 4th and 5th grade students, this could possibly impact more than 150 students in the long run. This is a wonderful life skill that so many will have the opportunity to learn. As soon as I get one group competent, they are eager to share what they've learned with others. This is something that they will remember for the rest of their lives!
