Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions."-Albert Einstein By the end of the STEM After School program, students will benefit from fine motor skills, cognitive thinking skills, learn about gravity and spatial relationships, and of course creating their own design.

We are a fourth grade class of a school in the South Bronx.

Our school is a Title I school located in a high needs area. Our class is comprised of general education students as well as students with Individual Education Plans. Our students are inquisitive and energetic. They are curious about the world around them and are always eager to learn new things.

My Project

This K'nex program will include inquiry-based STEM lesson plans that are aligned to the Common Core Standards. Our students will take charge of their own learning experience. Creativity will be an important skill because the students will decide as a team what type of design they want to build. It will be their ideas and critical thinking that will bring this ride to life. Their drive and commitment will make this possible. During the construction of their models, student will understand the relationship between speed, distance, and time. They will also learn how mass can affect the speed of a coaster car. The K'nex program will improve student engagement because it is a collaborative project-based learning activity. it will teach our students about consensus building. Contributing to the class discussions will help students build upon each others' ideas.

This project will challenge students as they build, investigate and problem solve.

Students will learn through discovery, exploratory learning and critical thinking. Even our shy students will become active participants in the learning. The final piece will involve students into the art of filmmaking. This video will offer a different way for our students to get their point across on their experience with K'nex and what they learned from the program. This will encourage others to join as well.
