This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have a crochet club after school for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. These students are so excited to be learning this skill; some have really taken off. The beginning students need crochet kits so they will have hooks of varying sizes, yarn needles, and place markers. The advanced group needs kits to choose from to take their crochet to the next level.
These students have worked hard after school learning to crochet, and some have taught their friends during recess.
Some have made blankets to donate to a charity. They need to be able to continue to crochet in the summer months. Crochet is not only a good way to relax, but it could also turn into a profitable business. Many of the students tell me their grandmothers also crochet but do not have the patience to teach them. They are happy to be able to share this skill with their grandmothers.
