My Project

The end of the school year is a busy and stressful time. Students are anxious to complete state tests and eager for summer break. During high pressure times, emotions and behaviors can escalate causing tension between classmates and friends. This project will give students an artistic outlet for their feelings and will give them a platform to invest in the success of others.

Painting rocks with positive messages or pictures encourages students to use creativity to express themselves, promote kindness and engage with others.

Our school is blessed to have an outdoor space where children can enjoy fresh air in nature. This project will culminate in a beautiful sensory rock garden where students can self-reflect, practice kindness, and build community. My gifted students will lead this project after reading the book, Scribble Stones and watching videos demonstrating different painting techniques. They will research positive phrases and words as well as images that instill a sense of calm and peace. Different shades and types of paint, paint pens, and sharpies will be used to decorate the rocks. A hair dryer is an excellent way to dry the rocks and keep the project moving along. Final art pieces will be sprayed with an acrylic sealer to withstand the outside elements of nature. The rocks will be added in a special area visible to those both inside and outside of our school. The area will serve as a visual reminder of the joy we have together as one community of learners.
