My Students
Every child has a story, but so do their shoes. Bright colors, brand new, white and black rubber soles...for the most part; but then you also have the students in the shoes they wore last year, or their brother's/sister's hand me downs, or whatever the shoe's story may be. I have looked at their shoes and I have always been reminded, to put yourself in their shoes, walk a mile in their shoes. Every year children bring a new gift to my life; this group has given me the gift of relentlessness. I am relentless in my endeavor to provide these children with a positive second grade experience.
My Project
Second graders sometimes struggle to connect reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension. They often become frustrated in writing because they can't find the right word, or spell the correct word. An Echo Dot in our writing center would not only motivate them, but I think it would encourage them to broaden their vocabulary. Writing is such a fundamental skill, and this would be such a great tool to build confidence and strength in that particular area. Having three Kindle Fires would allow students more options for reading e-books, researching online, and completing AR tests. Students could use the Kindle Fire and Echo Dot as tools to answer comprehension questions more adequately, and use the text to support their answers. This would also give them an increased opportunity to use schoolwide websites such as worldly wise in order to increase their vocabulary as well.
