My Students

My students are a great group of third graders in a small rural school in southern Ohio. These 8 & 9 year olds come to school eager to learn despite the many challenges that some face at home. They amaze me with their abilities and achieving a year's growth or more each year. However, some students come into third grade below grade level and this year's growth is not enough to meet the proficient level of the 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee on the state's standardized tests.

Many students in my district do not have access to technology at home.

Having more technology in my class will increase their skills of using technology proficiently on standardized testing. Our standardize testing is completed online. So if students are not proficient in the use of the technology, they are not able to should proficiency in the reading and math skills.

My Project

Kindles in the classroom will enhance student learning. My students need the availability of technology to become successful in the classroom and on standardized testing. I only have 4 classroom computers which makes it impossible for ALL students to become actively involved in centers, test preparation, and group projects.

Having technology in my classroom will increase their skills of using technology proficiently on standardized testing.

Our standardized testing is completely online. Students must have the ability to complete a multi-paragraph essay proficiently. This is difficult to do, when students only have one on one access to computers for twice a week for 40 minutes each.

Kindles in the classroom will allow students to become familiar with not only typing on a keyboard but also how to operate the functions of a computer. Students will also have the opportunity to increase math skills, and reading skills using apps and websites.
