My Students

My students are a diverse group of kids. They enjoy completing projects via technology. It has the power to transform mundane learning tasks into innovative projects. They have a thirst to access a myriad of information. Technology puts it at their fingertips!

Our school is a suburban elementary located within the second largest school district.

Like many other districts, we are suffering from serious financial problems, so our school was unable to budget for classroom purchases. I ask my students' parents for basic classroom supplies and I am fortunate to receive donations from most families. There continues to be other supplies that are needed. Donors are the only hope we have for our students to completely access the curriculum in a memorable and meaningful way. My classroom is comprised of a mixed population. Many come from single parent homes where some parents work odd hours or double shifts. Despite the challenges faced by my students, both parents and students are determined to succeed and willing to work hard. My students' efforts are evident in much of their work and most are achieving grade level standards.

My Project

The only resources your teacher had for instruction were textbooks. Fortunately, this is not the case for today's students. They have the opportunity to not only learn through books but, they can also access additional resources via an tablets. Having an tablets in the classroom will allow me to mirror the class pad onto our television. Students can follow along as we research the Internet, consider apps where we can view primary sources, and explore educational applications. We also need a protective case for our Kindle Fire. We don't want it to get damaged! Finally, the U.S. is in great need of computer scientists. Rather than simply using a computer as a tool to accomplish another task, students can now be creative and innovative in developing programs for the future. Students can learn computer programming via the use of different applications such as the Hour of Code. Students will no longer view a tablet as a device for games but as a vehicle to transform the future of computing.

Due to the importance of the Internet, many publishers are now including websites and Apps to supplement their textbooks.

A greater emphasis has also been placed on generating the next computer scientists. These materials will allow me to continue advancing my student's education. We can transform learning via technology. Technology is an important component of education today. Students can access a plethora of resources using a Kindle Fire and can learn to program these devices.
