Kindle For Fourth Graders!

My students need a Kindle and case to incorporate technology into all subjects.

My Students

My students are very self-sufficient. I teach them autonomy starting on the first day of fourth grade. Our routines enable the students to run their day without surprises, and it also helps with behavior management. A Kindle would fit right into our math centers or our English Language Arts classes.

My students live in rural New York.

The district I teach in is very diverse, so there are children in my class come from all walks of life, all socioeconomic classes, and with varied experiences, both negative and positive. Our school community is very inviting and understanding of students and their individual needs. Teachers have small class sizes and have an abundance of opportunities to bond with students and show the kids that they are cared for. Sometimes that's what a child needs more than anything. I want to give these students everything they need to be successful in life. Exposing them to a variety of technology and getting them comfortable with tablets, will be beneficial for these students who may not have access to this technology in their homes on a daily basis.

My Project

There are so many ways that we can use Kindles in the classroom! In math, I envision the Kindles being a center of their own, in which students check them out to play math games. I have researched many math apps and plan on downloading appropriate level games to help students strengthen their core skills while having fun. In English Language Arts, our class utilizes the management system called The Daily Five. This system requires students to be self-motivated and stay on task independently while the teacher meets with guided reading groups. How wonderful it would be to see students using the Kindles to read independently after finishing their Daily Five assignments! I think that would be extremely motivating for the students. In addition, I teach summer school, which is usually a smaller class size. In this case, I would love to give the students more of an opportunity to learn about the applications available, how the Kindle works.

This project will certainly make a difference.

It will make a difference for me, as the teacher, because it is always useful to have a motivating tool in the classroom. It will benefit the students in more ways than I can imagine! They will be exposed to challenging technology and the applications will strengthen basic skills in both Math and English Language Arts, necessary for moving on to the next grade level.
