My Students

I teach kindergarten at my school. I have 14 students this year and each of whom are very unique and very smart! We have made it halfway through kindergarten! I cannot believe how much progress these students are making. Our school is working on implementing math workshop into our daily schedule. This means I teach small groups while the other students are working either alone or with a partner to build new skills/concepts or enhance what we have already learned. With this in mind, I would love to have some meaningful and engaging activities to help my students be more successful.

My Project

Each day, my classroom spends almost one hour on Math Workshop. This means I work with small groups and teach a lesson then we rotate. While I am with one group, the rest of the students are working on activities/games to either review prior skills learned or work on bettering their knew skills. The materials I am requesting will help my students in areas such as reading and counting numbers up to 20, adding numbers with sums to 20, subtract numbers less than 10, comparing 2 numbers, and help students with their fine motor skills! Students will use these materials daily in order to better the skills listed above.

Each activity I am requesting will serve an important roll in our daily routine.

Student will use the flip and solve math boards to practice their addition facts. We just completed our unit on addition, so this activity is important to help students retain those fast facts. There is also one for subtraction that will serve the same purpose. The spin and count activity will help support my students who are still working on their number sense, and the Geostix will aid students in problem solving, fine motor skills, and shape recognition.

All of the activities I have asked for will allow my students to spend more time engaged in their learning; therefore, allowing them to take their education in their own hands and becoming the most successful version of their self.
