My Students

My school demographic data is as follows: 92% of the student population is African American, 5% are Hispanics, are 3% is Caucasian, and less than 1% is Multi-Racial and Asian.

There are approximately 96% of our students that receive free and reduced price lunch. I currently serve students and families that reside in a very transient low socio-economic community in which many of my students live in extended stay hotels and in some cases shelters.

My Project

Through the use of the literacy and math center games, my students will engage in content rich differentiated instructional activities as well as engage in conversation centered around a specific subject or topic. As an example, to reduce Response To Intervention (RTI) utilizing classroom tablets and literacy centers will further enhance their phonemic awareness as well as alphabetic principles which reduce the achievement gap among students not on grade level. With the use of crayons and glue sticks, students will engage in art activities to increase their fine motor development in learning how to cut with scissors enhancing their artistic ability in dictating their writing through drawing and creating.

To be simply considered and sponsored greatly impacts first the life of myself (the teacher) but also demonstrates that there is a community of stakeholders dedicated and involved in the success of underprivileged lives.

Having the necessary supplies and tools to engage my kindergartners will greatly reduce the achievement gaps for those students that have never experienced formal schooling prior to kindergarten. This donation will demonstrate that someone cares.
