My Students

A typical day in kindergarten begins with a discussion about what are the objectives of the day and what students will be learning. Once we begin our learning, the students are enthusiastic and ready to absorb everything...until the CD player doesn't work and the Elmo machine is out.

I have been a teacher for the past 11 years.

I've taught kindergarten and first grade classes for the the majority of my tenure. During my teaching career, I have taken many professional development classes and trainings to better my craft. I have found that in the last several years, most of the trainings are geared towards the use of technology with an emphasis on applications on tablets. My goal is to gain more experience using these apps and further my professional development.

My Project

The iPad would give me the ability to utilize the many different professional development apps to better serve my needs. These apps include Common Core State Standards by Master such uploading CCSS app by Mastery Connect and Notability to allow me to annotate during professional developments. In addition, using the camera feature to capture charts would help me retain the information learned for later use. Furthermore, utilizing the DIBELS assessment app would allow for analysis of student scores during PDs to better understand the needs in my class.

My students are ready to move in the next level of education.

Even though they are only 5-years-old, they are growing up in the world of technology. Our classroom should not be the exception but the best place to develop their minds for the 21st century. Giving my students this opportunity will make this the greatest gift of all. Whitney Houston once said, "I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." Let us do that together.
