My Students

Every morning my Kindergarteners chant positive affirmations about how smart they are and how they WILL succeed and graduate up to 1st grade! We say we are fertilizing our "mind gardens". My children are mosaic of backgrounds and learning styles who respond to technology as a way to learn.

Our school is a Title 1 elementary school in Brooklyn, East New York.

It is composed of children who come from many cultures and backgrounds and all qualify for free breakfast and lunch programs. Many of my students come to school hungry and unprepared with no supplies or snacks. A large percentage of them are unfamiliar with the alphabet and lack back grammar and learning skills. But regardless of where they come from, when they are in my classroom they are excited to learn and feel loved. I want to give them the language and math skills they need to move forward. Technology will help me differentiate my lessons to meet the needs of all my wonderful students. Technology will help me grow my Kindergarten Garden.

My Project

I am requesting one Apple iPad with retina display to be used in my classroom in a variety of ways. First, I will set up Language and Math Learning Center activities for individual and small group learning. Students will go on my downloaded language and math apps and complete tasks that teach and reinforce basic language and math skills. Second, I will use the iPad to project apps onto the SMARTBoard for whole group instruction. The iPad will also house a Teacher Productivity app that will let me track student work and assessment data which I need to report daily, weekly and monthly. The Dell computer speakers will provide the sound from those apps so the classroom can hear.

You can make an important difference to my Kindergarten Garden by giving my children a powerful technology tool to learn the language and math skills needed to academically achieve.
