My Students

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow."€" - John Dewey I am a first year teaching striving to provide my students with as many real-world educational experiences as possible. My goal is not only to prepare my students for first grade, but for their future.

I am a kindergarten teacher in a public, rural elementary school in South Carolina.

There are 15 girls and 6 boys in our kindergarten family. We are all very different, but each day we work together to explore, grow, and learn. We start out each morning by saying, "We are the class of 2027, and today we are going to have a FANTASTIC day!" It is my hope that by instilling academic and social confidence, I am laying a foundation for my kindergarteners that will help them succeed in their academic careers, and beyond. Please help me in providing real-world learning experiences for my little scholars!

My Project

Having an Apple TV in our classroom would allow my students to have another way to practice important skills that will prepare them for life in the real world. My students have independently created PicCollages and informational videos on their iPads, but they have not had a way to share their hard work. An Apple TV would connect to our classroom Promethean board and allow students to share their work. In doing so, my students would not only become more proficient with technology, but they would also have the chance practice valuable communication skills, like speaking clearly to share their learning. As their teacher, an Apple TV would greatly improve my instruction. By being able to connect my iPad to the Promethean board, I could clearly communicate expectations and show my students how to use applications. In doing this, my students will be able to have more time working independently and will be able to achieve more work to share with our class.

Kindergarten is such an important and foundational year.

It's a time for students to develop a love for learning that will extend throughout their lives. By allowing my students the opportunity to use technology while presenting their hard work, I believe their confidence and love for learning will increase. With this confidence, my students will be able to achieve anything they set their young minds to.
