My Students

In my classroom there is a lot of creativity going on in Math, Language arts, and Creative arts. One activity my students enjoy is I.W.T. (independent work time). During this time, students have an opportunity to read books, work at a language arts center or a science center.

Currently, I have 26 kindergarten students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

My students are very bright kids and great observers, but they often get off task when they want to share their observation. For example, "I like your shirt... it has little purple flowers... Oh! and tiny green leaves... They look like little circles." says the class. "Okay, now back to the letter 'u' class", I said. I have been a teacher for 27 years. My school is in a multicultural environment. Language arts is my passion and I am always trying to incorporate fine arts whenever my resources allow me.

My Project

One thing that would really enhance our learning centers and my small group instruction is the Tweezer Tongs Color Sorting Kit. Students can practice sorting, develop eye/hand coordination and build muscle control that they will need to start writing. As the students scoop, they can sort and examine the differences in the colors. This will also enhance the children's writing creativity. The students can write about the shape, size and color of the balls they observe. They can also share their experience with a partner about using the color sorting kit; this helps develop the verbal skills that are needed for Common Core State Standards.

My students need one set of Tweezer Tongs Color Sorting Kit, Acrobat Builders and Light Color Tabletop Blocks.

Your donations will improve our learning centers and provide constructive activities for the students. With these new materials in our class my students will now have access to better resources that creates a fun learning environment, challenge their minds and helps them develop the skills they need to elevate successfully in their education experience.
