My Students

Play is an often overlooked essential piece of Kindergarten that helps develop a life-long love of learning. Time is at a premium in Kindergarten and STEM activities are often pushed aside for the important development of early reading skills. My class loves hands-on STEM activities.

My Kindergarten class consists of 26 students.

Over half are ESOL students. Although the school is not Title 1, this class consists of many economically disadvantaged students. Over 1/4 of the students come from military homes. The class is very diverse. The school was built 44 years ago and the Kindergarten classrooms are very small.

My Project

STEM activities are often overlooked in Kindergarten as we are in a rush to develop early readers. These 3 requested STEM Early Learning Kits have activities are self-directed and will help develop young problem solvers. The activities will allow me to work with small reading groups since they are self-directed. Students will get to develop engineering, math and science skills while using their new reading and writing skills to solve STEM problems.

These activities are a win-win for everyone.

My students get to develop STEM problem solving skills using engaging activities that incorporated much needed PLAY! They develop a life-long love of learning and learn how to investigate and learn on their own. They get the benefit of small group reading and math instruction as well. It is a win-win for everyone!
