This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is an integrated (special and general ed) classroom, where there are two co-teachers. This allows for increased and targeted attention for each and every student. My students are kindergarteners in a Title 1 public school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. My amazing students need extra support and a variety of resources to meet their needs. We, as teachers, take pride in and responsibility for creating an environment in which our students can perform at their highest level, as well as promote a positive attitude and ambition to do so.
My Project
As an integrated co-teaching classroom, each teacher works with a group of students to better support specific needs. When pulling a group, students often have difficulty cramming into one table for a lesson. The students in the group often have sensory issues and need room to work. Having a new carpet will help students take charge of their learning and make them feel comfortable. Another item I am requesting is an easel. A new easel will replace an old broken one. This will benefit students during group work. These items will improve the overall image of the classroom, creating an increasingly comfortable environment. Please help make a difference!
