My kindergarten students come in every day ready and excited to practice their reading skills and learn new ones. We are a K-2 Title 1 school located in rural North Carolina where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Several of my students also receive weekend food backpacks supplied by local churches. My students' faces light up when it's reading time, whether it’s free reading time or reading center time They thoroughly enjoy hands on experiences and exciting activities to learn and reinforce reading skills.
My Project
My kindergarten students enter school on many different levels. Some of my students may not know the difference between a letter and a number. Some of them have never held a book let alone had a book read to them. The students are expected to grow their reading levels from a level A to a level D, by the end of kindergarten. With the help of a leveled reader library my students will have books to choose from that are right on their independent reading level. With access to books on their level my students will be able to enjoy growing their reading at school as well as at home with their parents. The more practice my students have the better readers they will become!
