My Students
My students are so curious about the world. At four and five years old, they are constantly asking questions and want to know more. Their desire for knowledge is evident. In these fundamental years of development, they are learning to be readers and writers. This group has a passion for learning.
My students are highly motivated kindergarteners from West Harlem (Title I District) that have so much potential to succeed.
My class student population is diverse and is made up of multiple ethnicities, ENL (English as a New Language), IEP (Individualized Education Program) students. Diversity within our school is something we embrace and nurture.
In kindergarten, we teach children about empathy. This group is caring and they always strive to be better community members. They take an interest in each other. I want my students to always take pride in themselves and their learning materials.
My Project
Phonics and word work are the foundations of reading. My kindergarteners aspire to become great readers! They are currently building their phonological awareness throughout the day so that they can apply what they're learning to their books.
This project will make learning to read FUN!
They will be engaged as they play different phonics games that will support their letter sound recognition, segmenting and blending sounds together, and learning different vowel teams. These games will support all the learners in my classroom, from the ones just getting started learning their letters and sounds and push the ones who are already reading.
