This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some students escape to the next grade level without the appropriate foundation. At some point, it is nearly impossible to catch up. Students that are not on grade level exhibit low self esteem which can affect a student's entire school career. The buck stops here. Dropping out is not an option.

This is my fifth year at this school but the students have the same issues as the school I left.

As a veteran teacher of 16 years, I have taken on the challenge. During the beginning of the year assessments, the staff usually notices that these types of students are not reading at grade level. The low socioeconomic level of these students doesn't help. How can a student do his/her homework without electricity? How can a student listen to a lesson when his/her stomach is louder than the teacher? Hopefully, as a Kindergarten teacher in this type of environment, I can be the vessel that can stop the cycle of poverty and lay a foundation of success.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by allowing them to have various opportunities to practice their math skills. The classroom set of magnetic numbers and operations kit will allow students to create their own equations.

Mathematics is a pertinent part of our daily lives and children need the foundation in order to grasp these concepts.

Using the sequencing train puzzles will let students manipulate the numbers to recognize the order in which numbers are located. The shape match up puzzles will show students the difference between two dimensional and three dimensional shapes. Math workstations will be used to strengthen various skills such as addition, comparing numbers and subtraction.

The rocking chair and the junction box will be used in the reading station where students can rock soothingly while listening to a book on CD.

These items will vastly improve the quality of my teaching and classroom culture for all of my students to succeed.
