My Students

Do you remember how much fun it was to play pretend as a child? Help my kindergarten students use their imaginations to start up their own grocery store, farmer's market, or even a lemonade stand. Students will be playing and learning important literacy and math skills at the same time!

I teach a diverse kindergarten class.

Several of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) and are learning to speak English for the first time in my classroom. Many of my students were not able to afford preschool, and so they are attending school for the first time when they walk into my classroom. Although they may not have been exposed to many literacy or math concepts before they came to kindergarten, I want them to leave my classroom with a solid foundation.

My Project

There's no reason why learning reading, writing, and math can't be fun. Help me show my young students how exciting learning can be! With a sturdy new wooden play center, my students will be able to practice important kindergarten skills while they play. Students can turn the play center into a grocery store, farmer's market, or even a lemonade stand. Students will get great writing practice as they write signs and advertisements for their store. Students will practice their math skills as count the store's products and add up how much they cost. Students will learn about money as they practice buying and selling the items in their store. The creative possibilities for learning and fun are endless!

I want my students to enjoy school and become life-long learners.

By introducing them to fun hands-on activities I hope to get them excited about learning. My students will not only enjoy playing with their new play center, but will be getting the practice they need to master important literacy and math skills.
