My Students

Ask any teacher and most will agree that the classroom carpet area is the space where ALL of the MAGIC happens!!!

My new kindergarteners will be transitioning from Pre-K where a cozy carpet area was their nexus of learning, fun, collaborative exploration… and NAPS!

I will have the pleasure of working with a group of inquisitive little friends from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. I will service learners with a wide range of abilities and sensory needs. A classroom environment with comfortable flexible seating options will provide them with a much needed sense of classroom ownership. This design aesthetic will allow them to easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class.

Upon entering their new kindergarten space in September, I wish for my students to experience a sense of familiarity on a plush carpeted meeting space with adaptable seating accommodations.

My Project

Once upon a time, there was a Kindergarten teacher. She found great value in cultivating a holistic classroom experience for her creative students. She adorned her windows and door with colorful sheer airy curtains, utilized lamps for softer lighting, and diffused the classroom air with energizing, relaxing and calming natural essential oils on a daily basis. Rumors raced through the hallways and bounced on the playground that her classroom was a whimsical magical learning space that housed miniature future leaders of our world!

But something was still missing.

She needed one more special item that would solidify her therapeutic center-based learning environment. She was missing a MAGIC CARPET! Her classroom carpet would be like no other in the school…because it would encompass all of the holistic elements that would make her students and their creative space unique! On any given day, unexpected friendships would be forged on this magical carpet and students who appeared to be simply laying down on their stomachs buddy reading a text would be suddenly morphed into the characters and setting of that new book that they were exploring for the very first time. Class pets would be introduced on this magical carpet and phenomenal architectural structures would be blue-printed, constructed then deconstructed on this magical enchanting carpet. Ideas would be safely exchanged, healthy heated debates would he held, and recess time disputes that often find a line spot on the way back to our room after lunchtime will be settled democratically on this wonderous magical carpet! On this magical mystical kindergarten carpet the foundation of our learning will take place empowering students to venture off to other cozy classroom nooks of their choice and independently showcase their understandings. Friendship circles will begin and end each learning day!!
