This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning never ends not even in the summer! Our Pre-K students have learned so much this year! As summer approaches, students do not go to school. Some programs are offered in the summer, but they do not apply to Pre-K or parents have to spend out of pocket which can be expensive. Therefore, when classes begin students often forget what was taught. Pre-K students are like sponges, with the right guidance they can continue to learn.

While some our families have paper and markers available, they do not have counters, letter beads, cards which can help them think critically, creatively while also improving their fine motor skills.

Pre-K students benefit from hands-on manipulatives to foster their learning. By providing these materials as early as possible, families will learn how to use them. Our class does remote learning on Wednesdays as a way to have our families participate. We play games, give materials such as sticks and shapes to build houses, animals etc. It would be great to give them an opportunity to expand their learning throughout the summer by providing them with some hands-on materials.

My Project

These materials will help my students continue to learn at home throughout the summer. Pre-K students learn through hand manipulatives and games. The letter cards will help them become familiar with letters and sounds. The learning kits include many hands-on materials like counters and cards which can help students with 1:1 correspondence and comparing quantities. Scissors, glue and art supplies help foster imagination and help their fine motor skills.

We need to keep learning fun, creative, and challenging.

By providing our families with the right tools, materials and guidance, we are one step closer to creating critical thinking learners. Some games that can be created can help with memory skills and strategic thinking.
