Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 18 fun and creative kindergarten students in a high need community. My school is a Title I school where 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Because of the poverty level in our area, most students come to school with little or no hands-on learning experiences from home.

Most of my students come to school with no experience of school. Most do not attend preschool. A lot of them do not know how to hold a pencil correctly, much less know how to color, cut with scissors, and use glue appropriately. I want to give my students as many fun and creative art experiences as I can to open up their minds to a world of possibilities. They need this exposure to reach their creative potential. Studies show that kids that are exposed to art are more successful in reading and math skills. I want to give them this chance at becoming successful learners.

That is where you come in! I need dough rollers and cutters, paintbrushes, pom poms, pipe cleaners, rubbing crayons, alphabet and number stencils, number rubbing plates, and dot art painters. I hope to be able to give my students other art experiences besides using crayons all the time. They love to explore with paint and craft items when given the opportunity.

I want to thank you in advance for your time spent reading my proposal. It would be a blessing for my students to receive this gift of art. These materials will help my students explore their creativity and will push them towards success in all learning areas.
